Are you looking for things to do in Belize?
If you are, you’re in luck. You’ve just stumbled upon a comprehensive list of activities to do on your holiday.
So, are you ready to start putting your bucket list together? Let’s get started!
1 Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave
If you’re looking for an experience that will feel like it has come straight out of a movie, be sure to schedule a trip to Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave.
The cave is one of the most breathtaking sights that you’ll ever witness.
There is a body of crystal clear water that surrounds the outside of the cave.
On top of that, there are beautiful, green vines that dangle from the outside of the cave which makes it look like something you’ll find in a fairytale.
The inside of the cave is composed of stalactites and stalagmites which are guaranteed to leave you standing in awe.
Visiting the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave is one of the best things to do in Belize if you are looking for a unique adventure to embark on.
You’ll also find pottery on the inside of the cave that hasn’t been touched for centuries which will add a historical touch to your adventure.
You’ll also get to learn more about Mayan Gods on your trip as well.
2 Cahal Pech Maya Ruins
Visiting the Cahal Pech Maya Ruins is another one of the best things to do in Belize.
Especially, if you’re looking for an adventure that includes both history and scenery.
The Cahal Pech Maya Ruins are thousands of years old and were carved by Mayans of ancient times.
During the Classical Period, the ruins were used as a palace for a royal Mayan family whose lineage died centuries ago.
The name “Cahal Pech Maya Ruins” bears the meaning of “place of ticks.”
Although no one is entirely sure as to why it was called this, some historical professionals have suggested that it has something to do with the fact that the ruins were once surrounded by green pastures.
The ruins were first built in 1000 BC which makes them one of the oldest landmarks in Belize.
In 800 AD, they were abandoned and left to deteriorate into the stony spectacle that they are today.
I highly recommend signing up for a guided tour of the Cahal Pech Maya Ruins.
3 Caracol Maya Ruins
Are you looking for an epic adventure that you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the world?
If you are, be sure to sign up for a guided tour of the Caracol Maya Ruins.
These ruins are slightly different from the ruins that we discussed in the previous section of this article.
The Caracol Maya Ruins are situated in the middle of the jungle in the Chiquibul Reserve.
So, your trip to the ruins will be an adventure in itself since you will be traveling through a lush jungle.
You might even encounter some wildlife along the way if you’re feeling lucky.
Once you arrive at the ruins, your guide will give you a full, historical layout of what the ruins are all about.
Since there is a crystal clear body of water underneath the stone formations, you’ll get to explore the Chiquibul Reserve on a tube.
I’m not sure about you, but that sounds like an epic adventure to me.
During your tour, you’ll also get to explore a museum that is home to a variety of antique items
. These antique items are centuries old and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
This makes visiting the museum a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So, are you ready for an adventure that you’ll never forget?
I know that I am!
4 Black Hole Drop
If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure in Belize, be sure to add the Black Hole Drop to your holiday bucket list.
This is one of the perfect things to do in Belize for those who are looking to have fun while burning those unwanted calories.
The Black Hole Drop is a giant sinkhole which is known as the Actun Lock Tunich sinkhole.
It is situated more than 150 feet above the rainforest and is over 200 feet deep.
To get to the sinkhole, you will need to go on a hike through the rainforest.
If you’re feeling lucky, you might encounter some wildlife on the way.
However, regardless of whether you encounter any wildlife or not, the hike through the rainforest will still be absolutely breathtaking.
You’ll hike through luscious trees and glittering lakes. You may even see some interesting rock formations along the way.
Since the hike begins at the bottom of the Maya Mountains, you can also be prepared to see some stunning mountain views.
Once you reach the Actun Lock Tunich sinkhole, you’ll be taken on a 200 feet descent down the sinkhole.
If that’s not an epic adventure, I don’t know what is!
Belize is full of beautiful sights and wonders to take in and enjoy. So, what’s the best way to explore some of what Belize has to offer?
Ziplining of course! There is a wide variety of terrains for you to zipline through, but you’ll most likely be ziplining through the rainforest.
You can slide and glide from one treetop to another while taking in all of the beauty that Belize has to offer.
On the way, you’re highly likely to spot some wildlife. So, be sure to keep your eyes open.
Ziplining is one of the best things to do in Belize if you’re an adventure junkie like I am.
You’ll get to see life in Belize in a way that very few people have seen it before.
You’ll get a birdseye view of the beauty that lurks on the surface as well as see spectacular mountain views.
Not to mention that the rainforest that you’ll be ziplining through is breathtaking enough as it is.
Are you looking for new and interesting ways to explore Belize?
If you are, you should definitely try out some horseback riding.
This is probably one of the most exciting things to do in Belize if you’re looking for fun ways to explore.
You’ll get to see all of the beautiful sights from an entirely new perspective.
Unlike ziplining, you’ll also have a lot more freedom when it comes to exploring.
For starters, you can go horseback riding through a variety of terrains. You can explore the tropical rainforest and all of the beauty it beholds.
Otherwise, you can travel through the countryside to see views that even the rainforest won’t be able to offer.
If none of these terrains tickle your fancy, you can go horseback riding through the mountains like an ancient pioneer.
There are also farmlands that you can ride through.
The options are truly endless. One of the best places to embark on your horseriding adventure is at Outback trails.
Here, you can book a guided tour where you’ll be led through a terrain of your choice while the guide gives you more information on your surroundings.
Otherwise, you can try out Mountain Equestrian Trails if you’re looking to go horseback riding in the mountains.
7 Big Rock Waterfalls
Don’t mind the pun but you are certainly going to “fall” in love with Belize once you see the spectacular Big Rock Waterfalls.
Visiting these waterfalls is one of the best things to do in Belize if you’re looking for an adventure that comes with beautiful scenery.
The waterfalls are situated in the Mountain Pine Ridge.
So, you can rest assured that you’ll encounter breathtaking mountain views along the way.
To get to the falls, you will need to go on a short hike as well as climb over a few boulders and rocks.
Don’t let this scare you off just yet.
The trail has been rated as moderately easy which means that it’s perfect for hikers of all ages and skill levels.
You don’t have to be a fitness junkie to reach the waterfalls.
Besides, once you witness the awe-striking scenery that the Big Rock Waterfalls have to offer, you’ll realize that the short hike was definitely worth your while.
The falls are also quite dynamic in size. They stretch up to 150 feet in length. So, don’t stand too close to the edge!
The sight of the rushing waters crashing onto the rocks below is bound to mesmerize you.
Are you looking for even more scenery? You don’t have to stop your adventure at the Big Rock Waterfalls.
You can continue hiking for another 15 minutes to reach the Privassion River which is an equally breathtaking sight, to say the least.
Fitness, fun, and fabulous views? Sign me up!
8 Rio on Pools
If the rushing waters of the Big Rock Waterfalls contain too much excitement for you, you could always tone things down a notch by heading over to Rio on Pools.
This is one of the more relaxing things to do in Belize, but that does not mean it lacks anything in terms of scenery.
This is one of the most beautiful sights that you’ll see in your life.
Rio on Pools is covered by granite rocks that you can climb over or lay down on to catch a tan.
It is also composed of a range of small waterfalls in case you are still hoping for waterfall views.
At the bottom of the waterfalls, you’ll find small pools that the small waterfalls gently crash into.
You can choose between simply staring at the beautiful sight of the waterfalls that intertwine to become natural pools.
Otherwise, you can bring along your swimsuit to take a dip in the pools to cool down from the midsummer heat.
Did I mention that the Rio on Pools waterfalls are the most famous waterfalls in the whole of Belize? They sure are!
So, be sure to add this spectacular adventure to your holiday bucket list.
Trust me, you’ll want to add this to your list of epic life experiences!
9 Thousand Foot Fall
I hope that you aren’t tired of waterfalls yet because we are about to get to one of the best waterfalls that we have discussed in this article so far.
The Thousand Foot Fall is exactly as dynamic as the name implies it is.
As a matter of fact, this is the single largest waterfall in the whole of Belize.
Actually, it is also the largest waterfall in the whole of Central America. Now, that’s impressive, to say the least!
The Thousand Foot Fall is over 1500 ft in height. So, you definitely don’t want to dive off of the top of this one if you plan on staying alive.
It is also needless to say that the waterfall is one of the most spectacular sights that you’ll find in Belize.
Well, it’s the second best in my opinion since the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave is my personal favorite.
However, that’s a decision that you’ll need to make for yourself. The waters of the
Thousand Foot Fall rush over a majestic cliff and crash into a raging pool below.
At the bottom of the waterfall, you’ll also find a lush forest.
The greatest part is that you’ll get to see the lush forest from a bird’s eye view.
Yes, you’ll quite literally feel like you’re at the top of the world.
If you want to put your fitness levels to the test, you can take a fruitful hike down the side of the cliff to see the forest below firsthand.
That’s why visiting the Thousand Foot Fall is one of the best things to do in Belize if you are a fitness junkie.
You can’t say no to this epic adventure. Go ahead and see the majestic waterfall in action!
10 Mountain Pine Ridge Nature Reserve
Here’s another one of the best things to do in Belize for those who are looking for scenery, more scenery, and nothing but breathtaking scenery.
The Mountain Pine Ridge Nature Reserve has something for everyone to enjoy.
For starters, there are a few hiking trails that are suitable for hikers of all skill levels.
On top of that, there is a lovely grass patch where you can sit down and have a lovely day with your family.
So, don’t forget to pack a picnic basket filled with your favorite snacks and treats.
The most spectacular part about visiting the Mountain Pine Ridge Nature Reserve is the opportunity to see the Rio Frio Cave in person.
The Rio Frio cave is an ancient cave that has been in existence for eons and eons.
It is composed of beautiful granite rock formations that are guaranteed to leave you standing in awe.
The cave is massive in size and used to be used as a burial chamber for ancient Mayan tribes.
So, I hope that you aren’t scared of ghosts! Since the cave is so big, you can explore it comfortably without having to bend your knees.
There are also giant stalactites hanging from the top of the cave, most of which are probably bigger than you are.
Exploring this cave will make you feel like you are Lara Croft from Tombraider.
I mean, you will literally be exploring an ancient tomb even though there isn’t much raiding to do unless you have a thing for collecting pebbles.
11 The Macal River
The Macal River is another of the limitless beautiful sights that you’ll get to see while you’re on holiday in Belize.
The river stretches for quite a distance and holds crystal clear waters that look tantalizing enough to take a dip in.
If you’re looking for a relaxing day out, you can pack a picnic basket filled with delicious food and unwind on the riverbank while chowing down on your snacks.
Don’t get disheartened just yet. There are more exciting things to do at The Macal River than having a picnic.
As a matter of fact, one of the most popular things to do in Belize at The Macal River is to go canoeing.
You can paddle along the river while you take in all of the beauty that surrounds you.
As an added bonus, you’ll also be getting some exercise which is great for the heart and lungs.
If you don’t have your own canoe it doesn’t mean that you can’t go on this epic adventure.
As a matter of fact, there are quite a few stores in Belize that offer canoe rentals.
I mean, who brings a canoe onto an airplane when they travel anyway?
So, regardless of whether you’re looking for relaxing or adventurous things to do in Belize, The Macal River is the perfect place to be!
Are you looking for things to do in Belize that will put you in touch with the local culture?
If you are, Tikal is a great place to start.
Although Tikal is actually situated in Guatemala, it is still a popular adventure for tourists to embark on when they are visiting Belize.

The area that you will be visiting is absolutely breathtaking.
You’ll be surrounded by beautiful forest views that are bound to leave to leave you standing in awe.
The scenery isn’t even the best part of this exciting expedition. Do you enjoy live performances as much as I do?
If you do, Tikal is definitely the place for you. You’ll get the opportunity to see cultural dances that are performed by the locals.
On top of that, you can sign up for a guided tour of the Tikal ruins where you’ll get to learn everything there is to know about the park’s history?
Yes, Tikal is an entire city. So, there is plenty to see and plenty to do.
The city used to be one of the biggest and strongest kingdoms in the country.
However, less than 3000 people inhabit the area at the moment.
It is also a UNESCO world heritage site since it has one of the largest archeological heritage sites in the country.
13 Belize Zoo
If you’re looking for family-friendly things to do in Belize, I am pleased to inform you that you have just found one.
The Belize Zoo is not only one of the biggest zoos in the country, but it also has one of the most diverse ranges of animals that you’ll find in any zoo from across the world.
You’ll find almost any animal that you can think of.
Due to the dynamic size of the zoo, you can also rest assured that the trip will keep your little ones entertained for hours, if not the whole day.
Some of the animals you’ll get to see include bears, lions, giraffes, and tigers. Don’t worry there are a lot more animals to see.
Remember that Belize has its very own rainforest.
This means that you’ll see rare animals that you’re highly unlikely to find anywhere else in the world.
There are also a few animal shows that are hosted by the zoo in case you and your family are looking for some extra entertainment.
14 Scuba Diving
You’ll be swimming in excitement when you visit Belize. Especially if you sign up for a scuba diving expedition.
This is one of the best things to do in Belize on a hot, summer day.
It is also a great way to explore everything that you can’t see on the surface. Belize is home to the second-largest coral reef in the world.
The reef covers Belize’s entire coastline.
That makes this one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world.
You can dive deep and explore the wide variety of marine life that inhabits the country’s ocean.
Don’t worry, you’ll be scuba diving reasonably close to land. So, you aren’t very likely to run into any sharks.
You will, however, get to see hundreds if not thousands of less threatening fish species.
If you have an adventurous spirit as I do, you may also find that the entire experience is one of the most thrilling experiences that you’ve had in a long time.
Besides, who can possibly say no to swimming at the second-largest coral reef in the world.
Now, that’s a story to brag about to your friends! Don’t get disheartened just yet if you forgot to pack your own scuba diving equipment.
There are plenty of shops in the area that offer rentals.
On top of that, there are also holiday agencies that offer scuba diving tours that include the entire package.
One thing is certain, scuba diving in Belize will be nothing less than a splashing adventure.
Are you ready to become an explorer of the seven seas?” If you are, be sure to add sailing to your list of things to do in Belize.
Don’t worry too much. You don’t have to be a professional sailor to embark on this expedition.
As a matter of fact, you don’t need to have any sailing experience at all.
To go sailing in Belize, you’ll need to sign up for a tour where a trained and qualified professional will do all of the hard work for you.
The only thing that you’ll need to do is to relax and take in the beautiful ocean views that surround you.
This is one of the perfect things to do in Belize for all of the adventure junkies out there.
Not only will it allow you to get out of the house but it will also allow you to escape from the land and all of the noise that is caused by the tourists who are flocking around the country
. You’ll get to see a part of the ocean that you won’t get to see from the shore.
That is what makes sailing in Belize such a great way to clear your head and release some stress.
Let’s be honest. Buying dinner every single night can put quite a dent in your holiday spending budget.
So, if you’re looking to save some cash without going hungry, I highly recommend trying out some fishing to see if you can catch your dinner instead.
Since there are plenty of lakes, rivers, and beaches in Belize, you’ll have your pick of the litter when it comes to picking a fishing spot.
You can try out fishing in the lake if you are willing to be patient and make a whole day out of your expedition.
Otherwise, you can try out some sea fishing if you are looking for a faster catch and a more fast-paced adventure.
Naturally, most people don’t bring their fishing rods and hooks along on a holiday trip.
I mean, who has extra space in their bag after shoving all of their clothes and essential items in it.
I, for one, usually have to sit on my bag just to zip it shut.
Thankfully, there are plenty of stores in the area where you can rent fishing equipment.
The only things that you’ll need to buy will be your bait, hooks, and sinkers which won’t put too much of a dent in your pocket.
The greatest part of going fishing in Belize is the fact that it’s something you can do as a lone ranger and something that you can enjoy with your family.
If you do intend on bringing your family along on your expedition, just be sure to pack a picnic basket with some snacks since catching a fish can take a few hours, if not the whole day.
Go ahead and get your catch of the day. What have you got to lose?

Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker on the other hand have plenty of space for you to enjoy.
Visiting the islands will be one of the most mind-blowing beach trips that you’ll experience in your life.
Naturally, it may not be one of the best things to do in Belize on a cold and rainy day since your primary activities will all take place on the beach.
So be sure to check the weather forecast before scheduling your trip to one of these islands.
Once you arrive, you’ll be able to go swimming in the blue waters that crash into waves on the shoreline.
These are also excellent spots for scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and ocean kayaking.
If your family is traveling with you, be sure to take your little ones on a shell-hunting expedition.
They’ll find some rare shells that they can show off to their friends.
If you’re not in the mood to get wet, you can always catch a tan on the sandy shores.
Just be sure to bring along some sunscreen since the sun can get quite scorching at midday.
In general, visiting these islands is one of the most luxurious things to do in Belize. So, add this epic adventure to your holiday bucket list!

If you’re looking for educational things to do in Belize, be sure to make a pit stop at the Belize Museum.

It first opened its doors in 1993 which means that it is still reasonably new.

For starters, the wildlife sanctuary is breathtaking, to say the least. It is home to spectacular forests, rivers, and rock formations.
On top of that, Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a diverse range of interesting wildlife.
It is also one of the only wildlife sanctuaries in Belize that offer jaguar protection and preservation programs.
Don’t worry just yet.
Since the aim of the sanctuary is to protect jaguars, you won’t get close enough to one of them to become a lunchtime snack.
However, you’ll get to learn everything there is to know about the majestic creatures and their natural habitat.
Since the purpose of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is to preserve the wildlife in the area, you must be sure to leave only footsteps and take only memories.

Last, but certainly not least, let’s take a look at one of the most culturally immersive things to do in Belize.
If you want to get to know more about the country’s native culture, I highly recommend visiting the village of Hopkins.
This is where you’ll find the most authenticity on your holiday adventure.
Hopkins is a remote town that is most commonly used by natives to fish.
When you visit the town, you’ll get to experience the food and lifestyle of the village up close.
On top of that, you’ll find that the villagers love dancing as much as anyone else does.
You’ll get to witness cultural dances that are performed by the natives which are unlike anything you’ll find in your own country.
If you visit the town on the 19th of November, you’ll get to participate in the Garifuna Settlement Day.
During the festival, the locals celebrate their town’s traditions by hosting musical performances, parades, and setting up feasts that are composed of traditional foods.
