One of the best things to do in Temecula if you want to learn about the history of the area is the Temecula Valley Museum. It centers on 3 permanent exhibits that cover the major events of the town’s history. They feature artifacts, documents, and old photographs.

The museum also features a family-friendly “Discovery Area” for kids to learn about the town in a stimulating environment. That way, it’s just as fun for them as it is for the adults. There’s also an outdoor playground and picnic area to help turn the day into a real family outing.

2. Old Town Temecula

Temecula was founded as a town in 1882 thanks to the California Railroad having a stop in the Temecula Valley. The bustling then-new place blossomed around it. Although that railroad no longer exists, what’s known as Old Town Temecula astonishingly still remains.

For a history buff, it’s one of the best things to do in Temecula, because the old buildings are preserved! And not only is it a great place to soak up that atmosphere but it remains a great, bustling environment!

3. Pennypickle’s Workshop

If you have kids or are a child at heart yourself, Pennypickle’s is one of the best things to do in Temecula! Composed of various interactive exhibits, the idea of Pennypickle’s Workshop is science education via play.

Pennypickle’s Workshop is made up to be the home of the fictional Professor Phineas T. Pennypickle. He and his trusty friend, Beaker the mouse, get kids interested in science via their quirky inventions. They include a PB&J sandwich machine, a time machine, and a “Philarmonica-matic”!

For an art fan, Ricardo Brecada Gallery is one of the things to do in Temecula that you shouldn’t miss. It encompasses both an indoor gallery as well as a sculpture garden. And both are full of beautiful, unique art in a breathtaking environment.

Ricardo Breceda is known for making elaborate, imaginative metal animal sculptures. Here, you’ll find horses, serpents, spiders, and more. What makes him stand out is the level of detail in his work. You’ll find your jaw-dropping at the artistry and wonder.

If adventure is what you seek, California Dreamin’ is one of the most fun things to do in Temecula! For absolutely beautiful views and a real sense of excitement, what sounds better than a hot air balloon ride?

From this vantage point, you’ll get a literal bird’s eye view of the area. This includes breathtaking citrus groves, vineyards, and miles of stunning landscape! Book in advance if you want a romantic balloon to yourself and a loved one.

Otherwise each balloon tour has 6-14 people. The first ones take off at sunrise for a truly magical view. They last approximately an hour, and are capped off by a complimentary breakfast afterwards.

6. Sugarplum Zoo and Chocolates

Yes, you read that right. It is indeed called Sugarplum Zoo and Chocolates! If you’re looking for one of the quirkiest things to do in Temecula with the whole family, this is it!

Sugarplum has both a petting zoo and a homemade chocolate shop on the premises, making it a pretty unique place! These 8 acres are run by a married couple of animal lovers who also happen to be chocolatiers.

Come meet Daisy the pig and a cavalcade of alpacas, llamas, tortoises, and more. And grab some delicious chocolate treats while you’re at it! And adult visitors can also enjoy a lovely glass of local wine with their chocolate.

While here, you’ll also learn a lot about alpacas, as the tours are extremely informative. We recommend Fall and Spring as the best times to visit. And check out their charming gift shop, which is full of alpaca merch to take home with you!

If you haven’t fallen in love with alpacas before visiting, you certainly will by the time you leave.

What many probably don’t realize is that Temecula is home to the West Coast’s largest casino/resort! Pechanga Resort Casino being on our list of best things to do in Temecula is a no-brainer really.

Whether or not you enjoy gambling, Pechanga Resort has endless amounts of entertainment. The hotel rooms are extremely comfortable and lush, and there’s plenty of delicious inexpensive food! They even have some fantastic waterslides in an area they call The Cove.

And, of course, if you are a gambler, there are more than 5,000 slot machines and gaming tables to enjoy. Best of all, it gives you the glitz and grandeur of Las Vegas without the crowds and exorbitant prices.

If shopping is your bag, one of the best things to do in Temecula is pay a visit to the Promenade Mall. Having first opened in 1999, the Promenade has grown over the years to be the largest shopping destination in Temecula.

A beautiful shopping center, the Promenade incorporates both indoor and outdoor stores and has a pair of large parking towers. They feature everything from popular chain stores to specialty boutiques. There are also lots of restaurant options if you want to have a meal.

Plus, it’s home to a large cinema complex, if you’re in the mood for a film after your shopping spree.

10. Old Town Temecula Certified Farmers’ Market

One of the best things to do in Temecula to soak up some local culture is the Farmers’ Market. It actually runs three days a week in three separate locations, listed above.

Check out the over 40 stalls set up there each day they’re open. Vendors sell all sorts of fruit, vegetables, flowers, and even artwork! There are also some food trucks selling hot meals as well as baked goods, so you can have a nice breakfast or early lunch.

Located within the Pechanga Resort Casino is one of the largest, most state-of-the-art theatres in Southern CA. The Pechanga Theater is an enormous venue with 1200 seats and world-class lighting and sound.

The theatre features nightly events. There, you might get the chance to see touring Broadway shows, musicals, stand-up comedy, concerts, and more. Check their website to see what tickets they currently have on sale!

It’s generally a family-friendly venue other than in the case of some shows that specifically don’t allow children. Also, anyone 17 or under has to be under the supervision of an adult guardian.

The Pechanga Theater is a great place to take in some entertainment, whether or not you’re staying at the resort!

12. Temecula Valley Symphony

If you’re a classic music lover, another of the best things to do in Temecula is to see the Temecula Valley Symphony perform. There’s so much talent on display in their ranks, and it’s a joy to hear the beautiful music they play.

They’ve been in existence for over 20 years at this point and are a highly renowned orchestra. They don’t have a dedicated performance space but perform regularly in the Temecula Valley area. Audiences from miles around come to hear them play and be swept away by their wonder and beauty.

If you love classic R&B, one of the things in Temecula you must do is visit Old Town Blues Club. Experience an absolutely magical night of gorgeous, hypnotic Blues music in a stunning venue.

Open Thursday through Sunday, Old Town Blues Club is the perfect place to visit at night. It has a mellow and chill vibe just right for late night drinking and dancing. They also have a fantastic food menu, perfectly mixed drinks, and a friendly owner.

If great atmosphere is what you crave, this is the place to be.

14. The Temecula Stampede

If, on the other hand, you want a more exuberant nightclub, then you should check out The Temecula Stampede. With a rodeo theme, the Stampede is energetic, lively, and always bursting with excitement.

The Temecula Stampede also just so happens to be the largest venue for country music on the entire West Coast! So if you’re in the mood for an old fashioned square dance or a rowdy time, this is the place!

The Stampede also regularly features lives musical events and festivals. We recommend you check their schedule in advance! It’s one of the few places in the area just as much frequented by locals as tourists!

 

Things To Do In Temecula – Wineries

Besides everything else we’ve listed, Temecula, CA is probably best known for its wineries. Here is just a small sampling of some of the great wine you’ll find here.

There are so many things to do in Temecula if you’re a wine lover. Of the many wineries in the area, one of our favorites is Leoness Cellars. It’s certainly one of the most beautiful.

Leoness is located at the top of a hill looking out over twenty acres of vineyard. This jawdroppingly stunning view is one of the reasons it’s also often rented out for weddings.

On a visit here, you can go on a tour of the facilities as well as enjoy one of their wine tastings. Be sure to have a meal at their gourmet restaurant too!

16. Cougar Vineyard & Winery

Another one of our favorite wineries in Temecula is Cougar Vineyard & Winery. The family that runs this place started out in Texas, making wine throughout the ‘90s. After their success there, they moved out here, where they could produce their own grapes.

They’re open every day of the week for people to visit and try their many delicious wines. Be aware, though, that if you’re coming in a group of 6 or above, a reservation will be required.

There’s also a deli at the vineyard for an usual meal to pair with your wine. And come visit on Friday nights if you’d like to enjoy your drink and food with some live musical accompaniment!

17. Vindemia Estate Winery

Another one of the best things to do in Temecula if you’re a wine drinker is visit Vindemia Estate Winery. Amongst Temecula’s many wineries, this one stands out thanks to how intimate and peaceful it is. It’s quiet and small but with a breathtaking view.

Vindemia is also fully sustainable. In addition to growing their own grapes, the family also has a hundred olive trees. They harvest them themselves to make fresh olive oil!

Another reason to visit Vindemia is they don’t sell their wines anywhere else or even online. They’re absolutely exclusive to a visit at this one location. This makes it particularly special, as the wines are delicious!

If you love taking in beautiful scenery, there are many things to do in Temecula that should suit your fancy. And these tours should definitely be the sort of thing you’re looking for!

18. Temecula Ghost Tour Pub Crawl

Run by a company called Nightly Spirits, they take you on a spooky night of booze and boos! You get to visit a number of historic pubs by night and learn stories of local ghosts and hauntings!

Whether or not you believe in the supernatural, you might just feel a chill going up your spine. On top of that, you’ll get to experience local atmosphere and learn about the town in a new way. Namely through its local legends…and skeletons in the closet!

It’s run by Temecula Carriage Company and is a beautiful way to experience all the gorgeous sights of the many wineries in the area. The carriage takes you from winery to winery and you get to taste each of their wines.

It’s particularly great way to spend a romantic day out with your partner. Perhaps consider planning on spending an anniversary this way! The horse-drawn carriage is fairy tale and idyllic, and the wine is an elegant and delicious way to celebrate.

Another of the best things to do in Temecula is one of Destination Temecula Wine Tours and Experiences. Ever since 1993, they have been taking people on a variety of tours through Temecula’s “wine country”.

They have tours focused on wine tasting and private limo tours throughout the area. They have sunset tours that take you to various wineries and culminate in a romantic dinner. In addition they also have tours that last all day and include lunch.

There are so many to choose from, and every one is a fantastic way to experience this beautiful place! By the time you’re done, Temecula will be synonymous with wine for you!
