If you’re looking for things to do in Marco Island that you won’t find anywhere else, be sure to pay a visit to the Cape Romano Dome Home.

In case the name hasn’t already given  it away, the Cape Romano Dome Home is a home that is shaped like a dome.

I’m sure that part was pretty self-explanatory. So, what makes this dome home so spectacular?

Well, for starters, it sits in the middle of the ocean. It is also quite beaten down which gives it an ancient touch.

The architecture is absolutely breathtaking.  The Cape Romano Dome Home was initially designed to be a holiday home back in 1982.

The biggest difference is that it used to be situated on an island. However, due to high erosion levels in the area, the island has completely disappeared underwater.

All you can see is three domes, standing side by side and peeking out of the water.

Thankfully, no one was in any kind of danger when the sand started to wash away since the owners had to vacate the premises in the 1900’s after a hurricane swept through the area.

You’ll have to travel by boat to visit the Cape Romano Dome Home since there is no land to walk on around it.

You’ll even pass the Ten Thousand Islands area where you’ll get to see some spectacular animals if you are lucky.

This is a spectacle that you won’t see elsewhere. So, be sure to add the Cape Romano Dome Home to your holiday bucket list!

The most spectacular element of the reserve is the fact that it encompasses a variety of different habitats.

As much as you can take a nice, quiet stroll on the beach, you won’t be able to reach the beach by foot.

You’ll have to book a ferry in order to reach the island.

Since this is a small island, there aren’t as many useful facilities as one would expect there to be.
