1. Picture Lake Campground

Before I left for Picture Lake Campground, I had formed an opinion of what it might look like. However, when I arrived, it was way more than I expected.

This camp is one of the most beautiful campgrounds in Virginia and among the most attended day trip destinations. Picture Lake Campground is a place that is perfect for the entire family to go on vacation.

Picture Lake is a small scenic park, where you will no doubt have a very memorable camping experience. It’s near Fort Lee Military Base, Pamplin Park, and Petersburg National Battlefield.

This is a place where you can stay for days and not feel bored at any time, nor will you get that feeling that you want to get back home. The amiable staff makes you feel very loved, safe and cared for.

The excellent facilities and family-friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect place for RV camping, with 200 RV sites and offers full hookups.

Go boating on the lake or swim in the pool. In addition to that, the campground has various games you can play with the whole family. There’s also has a pavilion and a rec hall where you can hold gatherings.

Picture Lake campground can be described as a home away from home.
Why? Because this campsite has a store where you can buy groceries, firewood, and other supplies. There’s even a propane refill station and laundry facilities here.

All I can say is that my stay here was terrific and has become one of my favorite Campgrounds Near Richmond Va. I promised myself that I’d be back again and again.

2. Pocahontas State Park

The park covers 7,925 acres, so there’s loads of exploring to do, with large campgrounds and plenty of trees providing lots of shade.

The three lakes provide the perfect opportunity for fishing, swimming, and a fun-filled boating experience.

Pocahontas State Park has trails stretching over 64 miles, and they run all over the park. So if you like trekking, jogging, or running, the park certainly has you covered.

Or take the kids to the Aquatic Center. Here you have the choice of a toddler pool, an activity pool, 3ft, and 5ft deep leisure pools, a fountain wet deck, and two water slides. The kids will have an absolute blast!

Pocahontas State Park is a beautiful, well-maintained park, and camping is available all year round. The best time to visit is Summer; however, in saying that, the colder months are also quite pleasant.

The park has 4 yurts, 6 group sites, 6 cabins, and 132 single-family campsites.

And the good news is that pets are allowed in this park. So there’s no need to leave your furry friend behind at home.

If you’re a horse rider, there are over 13 miles of beautiful scenic trails to ride on. Unfortunately, there is nowhere for horses to stay on the property overnight, but there are horse facilities nearby.

Biking is very popular here! So, if off-road biking is your thing, don’t forget to hook your bike up to the trailer before heading to the park.

Camptown Campground is one of the most family-oriented campsites in Richmond, and I instantly fell in love with it. It offers the best home experience with its wooded thickets and campfires. You’ll love observing the star-filled night sky and listening to the subtle outdoor sounds from this camp.

It’s very spacious and has lots of trees that provide enough shade for relaxing. The campsites are quiet and secluded, and everything about Camptown offers that feeling of back-to-nature.

Camptown Campground is one of the best campgrounds in Virginia to have fun with your family or to relax. You can spend the day playing games with your kids or take them into the woods and go on an adventure.

Go and enjoy the hot tub or have a swim. There’s also fishing and boating nearby at Hatcher Run. If you need to visit the retail stores, spend some time shopping, or sit down at one of the restaurants for a lovely meal.

This campground is beautiful, clean, kid-friendly, and pet-friendly. The owners are available 24/7 if any guests need help.

Gwynn’s Island can only be described as a small paradise by anyone that has visited and for good reasons. There is only one bridge that connects it to the mainland.

Gwynn’s Island is an excellent campsite for an individual or family. It’s even a really great choice for your winter vacation.

Americamps RV Resort is very close to Richmond, via Route 95. I think the many services and amenities it offers are incredible. It’s one of the main reasons this camp stands out, as it ensures that guests have the best time all year round.

Americamps RV Resort is perfect for snowbirds and anyone else looking to make their vacation long-term.

The resort has everything a camper needs with various courts and many play areas, plus an assortment of games that can keep the whole family busy and entertained the entire day.

While on vacation, some of the things that attracted me to this RV resort are the free Cable TV and Wi-Fi, a fitness center packed with full workout equipment, and a huge swimming pool.

There are also laundry facilities and a new bathhouse. Plus, there’s a lovely large, fenced-off canine area for our four-legged babies to have some fun.

If you need any help, the staff will attend to you immediately. They are on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help with all your problems. You’ll even be served a complimentary breakfast daily.

Americamps RV Resort offers daily, weekly, and monthly rates so you can choose a package that suits your budget and vacation needs. The longer you stay in the camp, the better the rate. The camp has about 200 RV sites and offers full hookups.

New Point RV Marina & Resort is a hidden gem on the Chesapeake Bay near Richmond, offering a luxurious experience.

It’s an excellent campsite for those who love a rural setting away from the hustle-and-bustle associated with the city.

New Point RV Marina & Resort has 111 RV sites, and all the campsites are spacious. The neighbors you meet here will all be friendly, and you might just make a lifelong friend. Apart from all the fun activities, there is so much more that will keep you from leaving.

There are community events taking place here, plus games like cornhole and horseshoes.

Not only that, there is a worship center inside this resort.

It also has its own marina with a boat ramp.

Enjoy the morning ocean breeze and watch the sunrise by parking your RV right at the beachside. Or just relax on the sandy beach, swim in the sparkling pool, or rent a paddleboat.

New Point RV Marina & Resort has something for everyone.

Though its original owner ran it down, the new owners have renovated it. It’s now the best resort in the area.

The lawns are lush, level, and expansive. There are full hookups here, though it lacks Wi-Fi or cable. However, I was able to get 10 channels with the antenna.

8. Bethpage Camp-Resort

Bethpage Camp-Resort will be your first choice if you are looking for any camping near Richmond VA to take your kids. The water park here will keep the kids busy the whole day, not to mention the other games and a ton of activities.

There is so much to do here that your toughest choice will be deciding which activity you’re going to do first.

You’ll want to visit again and again. Your kids will fall in love with the ice cream stands available in the park. And you, well, I am sure you’ll love the movie and entertainment nights, along with so many other activities to keep you busy. There is always something going on to keep you entertained.

The park has many facilities to make life a little easier, including laundry facilities, a place of worship, a gym, and so much more. I spent two nights here and loved it. The staff is helpful and friendly, and always available.

I loved the environment, the food, the nightlife, showers, entertainment, and, above all, the fact that the park offers both Wi-Fi and cable. Pets are welcome in the Bethpage Camp-Resort. So, you’ll have the perfect excuse to stay here longer.

Grey’s Point Camp is another campground found on Chesapeake Bay. This camp has many water-based activities that you can undertake alone or with your family. All the campsites here are shaded and spacious, and the staff is very loving and helpful.

The camp is situated near Route 3, so you can quickly and easily get to the highway from the park, making your trip to Richmond very easy.

There are lots of events and activities available throughout the season. The camp also has a pavilion, a rec hall, and a game room.

With a store on-site, there’s no need to leave if you need supplies.

After visiting Grey’s Point Camp, I can sum up my experience in four words: It’s a great park!

Kids will enjoy the water park, plus the fantastic sparkling pools. Enjoy relaxing on the beach while the kids build sandcastles. Or why not rent a canoe or a kayak and explore the river.

Whatever you choose to do, it’s the perfect place for a family trip because it’s kid and pet-friendly.

With almost 200 RV sites, you will have a memorable vacation in this park.
