The Historic Davenport Hotel isn’t only a beautiful place to stay but one of the best historical things to do in Spokane! The National Register of Historic Places officially listed it, and we recommend a visit whether or not you’re staying there.

When it first opened in 1914, this gorgeous building was the height of luxury. By 1985, it had fallen into disrepair. However, in 2000, it reopened, fully restored to its former glory. Now it’s a perfect blend of early 20th century grandeur with the best modern amenities.

To continue exploring nature in the city, one of the best things to do in Spokane is visit Riverfront Park. We’re sure love this beautiful park, which is considered by many to be one of the greatest in the country.

Centrally located, it boasts breathtaking greenery, and numerous activities and attractions. Originally the site of Spokane’s railroad, it was transformed in 1974 as part of the World’s Fair. Now it’s more than 100 acres of lush green space, trails, and sights.

Don’t miss Spokane Falls, the 1902 Clock Tower, Loof Carousel, the US Pavilion, Red Wagon sculpture, and Rotary Fountain! Your kids will also love the Providence Playscape and Numerica Skating Ribbon.

10. Spokane Falls

Spokane Falls

While we’re on the subject of Riverfront Park, Spokane Falls really deserves its own entry on our list. It’s one of the most breathtaking sights in the entire Pacific Northwest. Therefore, it’s one of the things to do in Spokane that you really shouldn’t miss.

Both the Upper and Lower Falls can be seen from and are easily accessible from the park. The best viewing spot, however, is the Numerica SkyRide. You’ll get jawdropping panoramic views of the sheer majesty of the falls from above!

Amazing photo opportunities but also just glorious to experience in their own right, the falls are a genuine natural wonder. The dramatic roar of the water is stunning.

We particularly recommend visiting in early Spring, when the snowmelt makes them fuller than at any other time.

There are a lot of excellent parts amongst the things to do in Spokane. The next favorite of ours is Manito Park, located just outside of Downtown Spokane, and used to be a zoo!

While it no longer houses animals, what used to be their enclosures are now picturesque hills and gardens. Today, it also features the gorgeous Japanese, Lilac, and Rose botanical gardens as well as the beautiful Gaiser Conservatory. All in all, there are over 20 acres of flowers on display!

Within the conservatory, you’ll find beautifully replicated desert and tropical ecosystems. Also, you can’t miss the stunning Mirror Pond, named that due to how crystal clear a reflection it casts. A beautiful spot for a picnic!

The Spokane River by the Centennial Trail

Furthermore, it’s not far from Downtown so it’s easily accessible! Now, we don’t expect you to make it down the entire trail. It’s actually a full 40 miles long, connecting various Washington cities along the Spokane River.

But the part that goes through Spokane provides a great opportunity to tour the city! You’ll see some famous sights, get a good sense of the place, and get some exercise in to boot.

This absolutely enormous park along the Spokane River boasts huge forested areas as well as the Bowl and Pitcher. This is a very famous gorge with a well-known suspension bridge and rock formations that are true natural wonders.

There’s also horseback riding and rock climbing. And the fun doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down. They have campgrounds as well! We also recommend a visit to the Spokane House Interpretive Center to learn about Spokane history and culture.

In 1931, the magnificent Fox Theater opened: a sparkling example of Art Deco architecture. It was particularly famed for its spectacular murals within the auditorium, and was a cultural hub.

In the early ‘00s, it was nearly torn down but was thankfully saved and fully restored to its original glory. Today, it’s referred to as The Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. What was once a cinema and then vaudeville house now regularly hosts orchestral performances, opera, ballet, and more.

The Spokane Symphony now have their regular home here. They also often host various talks and cultural events from major people. For example, Michelle Obama gave a talk in recent years. It’s one of the premiere spots for high culture in Spokane.

Its massive 2600 seat auditorium means that it’s a venue for lots of shows that attract big crowds. When Broadway touring shows come into town, this is usually where they go.

At other times, you’ll find big name musical acts playing here. Sometimes they even host comedy shows, if the stand-up is a big-enough name to command that level of audience size. Make sure to check their website to see what’s on, and book your seats well in advance!
