For most of its lifespan, there hadn’t been many breweries in Atlanta. This is because of archaic alcohol regulation laws that stayed in place until very recently. In fact, up until 2017, it was illegal for Georgia breweries to sell the beers they made on site!

The city even had a law that the legal alcohol by volume (ABV) limit for beer was only 6%. All of these regulations dissuaded people from setting up breweries in the first place. As soon as these laws changed, however, the floodgates opened!
Today in Atlanta, there are breweries as far as the eye can see. It’s a huge bustling business. There are even brewery bus tours so you can sample the best beer the city has to offer!

Dry Craft Brewing Company was set up by two long-time friends who were both native to Georgia. Their goal was to share their passion for craft beer with the people and visitors to their beloved state.
And they certainly achieve this in their charming location, whose décor can be described as industrial crossed with rustic. It’s a perfect blend of traditional and trendy, as are their beers. They even won a Gold Medal in the Best of Craft Beer Awards 2018 as one of the best breweries in Atlanta!
Dry Craft Brewing Company is open every day of the week, six days of which they do tastings and tours. Even better, they don’t require reservations, and people are free to bring their kids as well as their dogs! As long as they’re on a leash, in the latter case.
On Saturdays, Dominic’s NY Pizza Food Truck is set up there so you can have a meal with your brew. There are also often live music performances there as well.

If you’re looking for one of the breweries in Atlanta with real historic charm, Glover Park Brewery is your answer! Situated right off the town square, it’s housed in a brick building from the 1930s.
Inside you’ll find a beautiful event space and terrace level with huge glass windows and gorgeous chandeliers. Outside there’s a patio with fireplace and picturesque beer garden that features local food trucks for your culinary needs.
They also allow both children and dogs. So it’s a perfect spot to enjoy a beer while not having to get a babysitter.
Founded by natives of Marietta, Georgia, they have lots of great brews. We highly recommend Off the Tracks (a West Coast IPA), Lights Out (their Irish stout), and their Base Camp lager.
We also love their seltzers, which are made with local Georgia peaches, blueberry puree, and more, and their draft cocktails.

The last on our list of family-friendly breweries in Atlanta, Three Taverns Craft Brewery has two welcoming locations. This is fitting as it’s named after a Roman tavern from 2000 years ago fabled for being a place of rest.
The original is located at the brewery itself and they call the Parlour. The newer one is the Imaginarium, a flashier, modern, two-story spot at the Atlanta Dairies. This one also has a large outdoor space with a patio, stone tables, and a walk-up window. Kids are allowed, and food trucks are often set up here to enhance the experience.
We recommend you try Morning Smack, their coffee milk stout, Saporous, a guava and passionfruit cream drink, in addition to their sours and IPA, A Night on Ponce. We’re also big fans of Ukiyo, their Japanese rice lager, a surprising but fantastic drink.
And other fun ones include their Lord Grey (an Early Grey tea flavored beer) and Enchantress, a cranberry sauce sour. Naturally, this comes around on Thanksgiving.
The original location also often features “flights of fancy”, their latest small-batch experiments.

One of more unusual breweries in Atlanta is Biggerstaff Brewing Co. because it’s known just as much for serving coffee as beer. In addition to that, it also has a full menu with lots of food options.
In the mornings, Bigger Staff opens as a café serving coffee, espresso, and pastries. Also in the evening, it’s a restaurant and pub. As far a drinks, they serve fantastic IPAS, a pale ale, sours, and very on-brand coffee brews.
For food, you’ll find steak, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and other meat options such as charcuterie, pork belly, and brats. We also recommend their crispy cornbread bites and their smoked Vidalia onion rings.
Biggerstaff is located by Staplehouse, an iconic restaurant that we also highly recommend for delicious food sourced from local ingredients.

Elsewhere Brewing lives up to its name, being one of the breweries in Atlanta that truly transports you to another place.
The owners of this brewery first met when they were both living in Europe. They drew inspiration from all the many places they frequented when they were there. These include pubs from England, beer gardens from Barvaria, and cafes from Belgium.
They decided to combine all of this into a European drinking hall meets café meets restaurant with Elsewhere. There’s also have a lovely, dog-friendly patio outside. They host live music performances weekly, and even drag shows!
Their cheerful, bright tap room serves all of their delicious homemade brews. These include pilsners, hefeweizens (Bavarian wheat beers), Czech lagers, and saisons (a French style of beer).
Meanwhile, they also serve delicious foods from steak to BBQ pork collar and black-eyed peas to crispy Brussel sprouts, and dumplings.
Best End Brewing Co.

One of the best breweries in Atlanta on the city’s West End has the fitting name of Best End Brewing. It opened in 2019 and is located at Lee + White right off the famous West Side Beltline. Even though it’s located right near other breweries such as ASW Distillery, and Hop City Beer, it manages to stand out.
This is thanks to its size (20 barrels) and its 3-barrel pilot system, as well as the quality of its drinks. Beers, ales, sours, IPAs, lagers, and porters are all brewed here. We recommend the Lack of Fokus Hazy Rye, and the Community-inspired Troy and Abed in the Morning stout.
Holy Shenanigans, their dry Irish stout, and the Salsa Shark Gose are also great options. Try their American pilsner called Anxiety Pils as well!
Its cool atmosphere is also helped by its patio, which allows dogs, as well as its tropical tiki bar. It’s also a full restaurant that serves steaks, charcuterie boards, sandwiches, pizza, and chicken wings!

One of the most unique breweries in Atlanta is the Bold Monk Brewing Co. It’s located in a huge space in Underwood Hills that caters to many different tastes. This is all part of its design.
It’s made up of many different areas, including a restaurant, a beer garden with fire pit, and even a bookshop! You can purchase a book at the same place you dine on steak, Belgian fries, or perhaps a burger!
And, of course, relax with one of their fantastic brews, which include saisons and lagers, and various specials. In the past, these have included Russian imperial stout and Irish stout. We particularly like the Discipline Dubbel. It’s wonderful in the Fall, with its cozy notes of caramel, brandied cherry, and toasted bread.

Most people would probably guess that Jekyll Brewing got its name from the classic story of Jekyll & Hyde. In actuality, it’s named for Jekyll Island, which is just off the coast of Georgia. What is believed to be the first-ever brewery in the South was founded there in the 1700s!
The brewery is co-run by an award-winning brewer who experiments with various brewing styles from around the globe.
They mainly do lagers, ales, and IPAs. Our favorites are the Cooter Brown, an American brown ale, and Dang Diggity, an IPA hop.
But they also have some more unusual drinks. These include a twist on the Cooter that incorporates coffee, and the 8-Bit Revival DIPA. This has passionfruit and pineapple in it, and is an impressive 8% ABV.
Both locations also have live musical acts performing on a regular basis to go along with your drink and food. So check their website for the schedule! It’s an all-around extremely fun atmosphere to enjoy time with your friends or loved ones.

While there are many breweries in Atlanta with live music, few focus on it like From the Earth Brewing does. If you check their website, you’ll even find that there’s a whole page dedicated to their Back Porch Concert series!
Tim Stevens wanted his brewery to be a place where people could share an experience of great beer and music. And he definitely achieved that goal! In addition to the concerts, there are also regular fun special events such as musical bingo.
The brewed on the premises beers on tap include Mexican lager, IPA, brown ale, and a Berliner weisse. Meanwhile, the tasty menu includes steak tacos, burgers, fried chicken, chicken wings, cheese fritters, and more. There are few breweries in Atlanta with as entertaining an atmosphere.

Sabbath Brewing definitely has to be one of the smallest breweries in Atlanta. In fact, they don’t call it a microbrewery but a nano-brewery! It’s so small, in fact, that parking isn’t available at the place itself but at nearby 1342 Glenwood Ave.
Sabbath Brewing located in East Atlanta Village, a historic area, in what used to be the East Atlanta Barbell Club. And key to its philosophy and ethos is being a fully inclusive space. As such, their live musical performances skew decidedly Fringe.
They often host music from punk bands in the area, and are known for their regular heavy metal drag night! They also often have burlesque acts performing there.
And you can take all this in while enjoying their grisette (a French/Belgian beer), saisons, Imperial oatmeal stouts, and IPAs!

Atlantucky Brewing

Of all the breweries in Atlanta,Atlantucky Brewing has one of the most interesting origin stories. It’s actually owned by the rap group Nappy Roots who began home brewing during their tours years before.
At first, they started partnering with other local breweries to make their brews before forming their own. They chose Castleberry Hill as their location due to it being an important place for Atlanta arts and culture. It’s also close to Atlanta University Center, which has numerous historic Black colleges. They are namely Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark.
Meanwhile, the name “Alantucky” comes from the fact that the group members come from both Kentucky and Atlanta.
They brew lots of great-tasting beers here. We particularly enjoy Kentucky Mud, a stout made with chocolate milk. And, naturally, live music is also a huge staple of the experience. Nappy Roots members are often seen there as well, both in the crowd and sometimes on stage!

One of the best breweries in Atlanta was also one of the first! Wild Heaven Beer started off in 2010, just as breweries began to be a thing in Atlanta. Originally, they were located in nearby Avondale Estates before finally moving to an Atlanta location as well.
They’re another family-friendly brewery that serve non-alcoholic drinks as well. The best of the former are Bestie Pub, Wise Blood, Eschaton, and Emergency Drinking Beer.
EDB also has various juice variations including watermelon, tropical, citrus, and berry. Meanwhile, non-drinkers and kids will enjoy their Montane soda water, amongst other options.
Adding to the fun atmosphere, they have a bunch of games for the whole family to enjoy. Some of these are board games for the table. Others are ladder golf and corn hole.
They even allow dogs, as long as you keep them on a leash! And they also have a happy hour to entice people in.

The picturesque Orpheus Brewing is one of our favorite breweries in Atlanta. This is in part thanks to its beautiful aesthetics and surroundings. It’s situated in a perfect spot overlooking the gorgeous Piedmont Park.
You can sit outside on the patio and take in the greenery and the people while enjoying your drink. Orpheus is particularly known for its sour beers such as Coffee Minotaur. We also recommend Ye Who Enter Here, an Imperial Stout with a 14% ABV, and Atalanta, their plum saison.
Another one of their fun experiments is Doughnut Revolution. It’s a lime coconut sour that got its inspiration from the local Revolution Doughnuts’ pastry glaze. We also of course recommend you check out Revolution Doughnuts as well!
As you might’ve noticed, they have a penchant for mythological names at Orpheus! They also love spotlighting local artists. Each of their beer cans was designed by a different local artist, many of whom have murals around the city. And, of course, be sure to come around Happy Hour for a great deal on drinks.

With multiple locations around the area, Reformation Brewery is one of the most successful and best breweries in Atlanta. And as you might’ve guessed, its name does indeed come from the original Protestant movement.
In part, this is a reference to the fact that the brews they make are all heavily influenced by Europe. Some of their most popular brews include the Cadence Belgian ale, Jude tripel, and Stark toasted porter.
They’ve also done some fun limited editions such as a rosé ale and a stout that tasted like cookies and cream. This means it’s always fun to return, as you never know what new flavor you’ll find.
Their largest location is a spacious 6000 square feet and has a modern split plan layout. One of them has the look and feel of a coffeehouse. It’s also located next to Queenie’s Southern Restaurant, and the two have partnered together. So it’s a perfect spot to pair a brew with a delicious meal. This is particularly true at Happy Hour, as you may have guessed!
Gate City Brewing

Gate City Brewing, the last on our breweries in Atlanta list, was named for an old nickname for the city. It was once called the “Gate City of the New South”.
Similarly, the Brewers Association has named this company on their list of fastest-growing independent/small craft breweries in the States. We can’t recommend their beers highly enough. Try the OTP double IPA as well as the Terminus Baltic Porter.
They also have some great seasonal selections, like the margarita gose, chocolate pumpkin porter, and milkshake IPA.
In addition to the drinks, Gate City also hosts various events such as a crafts market, making it a great local cultural hub. They also have such unusual and fun things to do as axe throwing, disc golf, and corn hole.
